2012 is the upcoming Chinese New Year of the Dragon.  The Chinese Dragon year is the most significant among the twelve Chinese zodiac animals. The Chinese dragon--symbolizing strength, power, and nobility--is an auspicious legendary creature in Chinese culture.  Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville (CAAN) is conducting series of Chinese Dragon Year Celebration events and activities.

The Chinese New Year Day will be on January 23, 2012. Traditional Chinese New Year season lasts for fifteen days.  Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville will perform a traditional Chinese Dragon Dance using the newly restored 60-foot long dragon prop (*Note).  There are over 20 performers involved with this performance. In addition to the this magnificent dragon dance, CAAN’s Lion Dance and Group Drumming Group will also perform at this special occasion.

CAAN’s director, Jen-Jen Lin, recruited 16 other dragon dancers from the community.  The Nashville Dragon Dance Team will be the first dragon dance team in the Middle Tennessee.  Jen-Jen Lin with assistance of Chinese martial artist Justin Chatman has been coaching this dragon dance team every Sunday morning rain or shine.  The dragon dance is like a sport team, it emphasizes strength, determination, coordination and teamwork.
